Interesting trick for recruiting from Groupon

So a few days ago the wife was reporting problems with her e-mail and one of those e-mails she was having problems with was groupon. So I decided to take a look at the e-mail headers to figure out when they were sent and I found this little gem.

Backing up and Restoring your MySQL RDS Instance (and other Cloud DBs)

As more and more things move to the “cloud” as a Sys Admin you might find your self tasked with managing a Database that you don’t have shell access too. That has been the case for me with my last two jobs, Laughing Squid and now as Senior Sys Admin at Oxygen Cloud. With Oxygen we needed to backup some AWS RDS Instances and wanted to do it using a server on EC2 so we don’t have the bottle next of our local internet. This same method works with Rackspace Cloud Sites which I used at Laughing Squid. Its use a little known (could not find it easily with a google search) trick with mysqldump

mysqldump -P  -h -u mysql_user -p database_name table_name > backup.sql

To restore your DB in the cloud you use a more well-known mysql technique

mysql -u mysql_user -p -h  cloud_db_name < backup.sql

Looks like the iPhone stores GPS data on you to your local backup (and maybe apple) and you can now view it using iPhoneTracker. Scary and the history mode is even more scary as you can see where you went during a day and its pretty accurate.

I just recently purchased a Nerf gun at Target as a impulse buy since it was under $20. I pretty much planed to buy it, go to my friends house and cause havoc and torture my friend daughter which I did. Looking at the gun you cant but think how well made it is and as if someone made it for adults and now I see why. Checking online I see all these reviews and even modders like this video on how to make your gun more powerful. Never thought Nerf gun would have such a hardcore following
